Welcome to Crowdfunding Corner, a new column at The Longfellow Bridge in which we highlight a local Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other project that we find cool and worthy of a shout out. Have a suggestion? Email us!
Local electronic music project The Difference Engine is finishing up a new full-length entitled “Strange Aeons”, and they need your help to see the project come to fruition. “Aeons” is the followup to last year’s acclaimed “Endless Forms Most Beautiful”, and is a concept record that is based within the world of H. P. Lovecraft’s writing. It’s estimated that each album takes about two hours to handmake. The really cool thing about “Strange Aeons” is its presentation; the album is packaged in a homemade faux leather journal (Vegan friendly!) with a CD tucked away in the back cover. The pages are stitched together, and every copy has 12 pages of handwritten notes (now that’s gotta cause some cramps). The journal is apparently from the perspective of the main character of the story, and contains snippets of lyrics and other insights into the album’s storyline in addition to album credits. It’s estimated that each album takes about two hours to handmake. Rewards include a digital download, physical copies of the album, a cover song of your choice or remix of your own song by The Difference Engine, alternate album artwork, or a figurine of a Deep One, a Lovecraftian monster.
The funding is going mainly towards supplies of the album to generate 50-100 copies (depending on funding level). Additional funding will support the rewards, and if that is surpassed the rest will go into promotion of the digital version. The Difference Engine has stated on their Indiegogo page that they are willing to take a financial hit for this project in order to see the album made as they want it. Funding is currently just over 25% and there’s 18 days left to fund. Check out the link below to watch a cool time lapse video of the album being assembled along with an in-progress instrumental album track.
