A laughing spell was cast over the audience of the Paramount Center as Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner performed their award-nominated show “Potted Potter.” The show is the brainchild and creation of the British duo and is the unauthorized Harry experience that condenses all 7 of J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” novels into 70 very hilarious minutes.
Clarkson and Turner rely on their pure wit, comedic timing, and fantastic chemistry to keep the show moving along. While Turner is a self-proclaimed Potter fan, Clarkson admits that he hasn’t read any of the books.
Turner plays the bespected boy wizard and Clarkson plays everyone else. They are both zany and have the ability to think and act fast on their feet as they breeze through their sketch-like performances of each book. Turner plays the straight man to Clarkson high-energy wacky schtick. The show is not over-wrought with stage props but does have a few silly items such as a water gun, puppets, and Silly String that just adds to the silliness of it all. There is also some audience participation, so don’t sit too close if you have stage fright.
The show was a little light on Potter content, but given the chance to laugh straight for 70 minutes, who cares! Whether you are a die-hard Potter fan or not, you will be roaring with laughter the entire time. This is a must-see show and a great family night out for all.
