Associate Producer Cindy Siblisky, of Voca People answers a few questions about this theatrical a capella alien group who sound like a whole orchestra with only their voices.
SD: Who are Voca People?
CS: Created in 2009, Lior Kalfo and Shai Fishman wanted to do something totally different musically. Voca People are friendly aliens who communicate through music and vocal expressions. It is a circus of vocals. Their only instrument is their voice. It is a powerful and emotional experience.
SD: How is it working with visiting space aliens? Would you ever consider making a trip to the planet Voca?
CS: They are a great group of aliens who bring so much joy through their music. I would most definitely travel to Voca. Last week, a video was released showing an earthling traveling to Voca.
SD: How do you prepare “Earthlings” for an out-of-this world show?
CS: The challenges can be getting the US audiences to understand what the show is really about. They are nothing like anything you have ever seen—nothing like Blue Man group or Glee.
SD: What is the one unique aspect that makes Voca People so different musically?
CS: The complexity of taking a song and making the words musically. The variety of music ranges and there are no instruments, it’s all voice. They are so silly that the audience can’t help but let loose. There is something about the charm and how they interact with the audience.
SD: What can the audience expect to see/hear at their show?
CS: It’s everything from pop to rap. The show is all woven through history of music. It is really an experience you have to see in person to believe. This is something you can’t watch on DVD.
