Accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will possibly face the death penalty if convicted and sentenced for his role in last April’s attack.
Faced with a Friday deadline, Attorney General Eric Holder released a statement this afternoon allowing federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty.
“After consideration of the relevant facts, the applicable regulations and the submissions made by the defendant’s counsel, I have determined that the United States will seek the death penalty in this matter,” Holder said in the statement.
Holder has expressed distaste for the death penalty in previous comments, as have many Boston residents–including survivors and victims’ families. Mayor Walsh answered ambiguously when pressed about the issue in a recent interview.
What do you think? If convicted, should Tsarnaev face the possibility of execution?
