After a shoulder injury, WWE Superstar Sheamus is finally back in the ring and will brining is “Brogue Kick” to the TD North Garden on March 25th.
SD: First and foremost, how is your shoulder healing?
SF: My shoulder is doing great! I have been in rehab for the last seven months and my treatment was ahead of schedule. While away from the ring, I was able to spend some time at home and relax. I am very glad to be back!
SD: How did you get started as a professional wrestler?
SF: I joined (IWW) Irish Whip Wrestling which was named after Irish wrestler Danno O’Mahony, who invented the “Irish Whip.” I got some basic training there and then moved NYC and signed with the WWE.
SD: What did it mean to you to become the first Irish-born WWE CHAMPION?
SF: WWE is huge all over the UK. I used to watch it on Saturday mornings with my Grandmother and great aunts. When I told my dad that I was leaving my job in IT to pursue a career as a wrestler, he was very hesitate about it and said that it was a huge risk. He definitely is one of my biggest fans. The honor of becoming the champion was a huge deal for my countrymen. The WWE goes to Ireland twice a year and I am greeted with great fanfare. I love my fans, they are great!
SD: What is the biggest misconception that audiences have about pro wrestling?
SF: I believe a lot of folks have an out-of -date view of it. We are family-friendly and very entertaining with lots of great athletes. The WWE has grown and evolved over the last twenty years. We are not the wrestling of the 80’s anymore.
SD: If you could choose any former WWE wrestler to wrestle against whom would it be and why?
SF: “Macho Man” Randy Savage. He was the first wrestler that really stood out to me when I was 7. I still remember watching him take on Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat on my grandmother’s black and white television.
Bonus Holiday question:
SD: Being from Dublin, how did you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?
SF: After my match on Monday Night Raw, I toasted my fans by drinking a large glass of Guinness.
