Boston Gay Men’s Chorus Celebrates LGBT Pride with Glee star and Lynn, MA Native, Alex Newell
SD: How did you get to LA from Lynn?
AN: A plane! (He says with a laugh) I auditioned for the “Glee Project,” which was a dream come true for me when it happened.
SD: Who influenced you as a singer?
AN: My aunts & uncles on my mom’s side. They all have had a giant influence on me and my career.
SD: Was there any hesitation playing the first transgender teen character on American television?
AN: I just went in not knowing what to expect. It was a really fun experience. Playing Wade “Unique” Adams, I felt like a trailblazer. Someone always has to go first and I am glad I had the opportunity to do it.
SD: What is it like singing with the BGMC?
AN: It is so much fun! When I had my first rehearsal, I forgot it was an all-male chorus and I was wondering if more singers were going to show up.
SD: Any plans to make your own music?
AN: Yes, I am working on my own album. Although, I love singing cover songs, I can’t wait to be able to sing my own songs.
