Former street performer and rising pop star Andy Grammer will be performing his hits “Keep Your Head Up” and “Fine By Me” along with his other songs in the intimate setting of the House of Blues next week.
SD: How easy was the transition from street performer to professional singer?
AG: I think I did an ok job transitioning. My first album was good. I believe I got better at the entire process from writing the music to performing in a studio. My new album is coming out in August and I am very excited about it. I hope all my fans will love it just as much as I do.
SD: Since your father was also a musician, how much musical influence did he have on you?
AG: My dad was a working musician. He was always singing and writing music in the house. He made his living writing children’s music, so music was all I ever knew.
SD: What’s the inspiration for your new single “Back Home”?
AG: The success of my first album kept me on the road for 3 years, so when I got home I realized how much I missed my family and friends. One day while having coffee and chatting with a friend, I realized how much you need this as a person and that was my inspiration for the song.
SD: What is the most exciting part about touring for you?
AG: On this tour, it has been really exciting playing both my old and new music. The new stuff seems to be well received by the audience and when that happens it gets me really excited.
SD: Once your tour ends, what is next for you?
AG: The new album comes out just about the time this tours ends. I will probably end up touring again. This tour has been like an appetizer for me.
