Broadway actor-singer Megan Hilty who has starred in “Wicked,” “Nine to Five,” and on two NBC shows (“Smash” & recently “Sean Saves the World”) will be performing with the Boston Pops this 4th of July.
SD: When did you know that you wanted to be a performer?
MH: I knew at a very early age. When I was little, I saw the national tour of Jekyll & Hyde and after that I knew that is how I wanted to make people feel.
SD: Who inspires you as performer?
MH: There are so many people and at different points in my career, it has changed. But the constant inspirations for me have been Bernadette Peters, Audra McDonald, and Dolly Parton. They are all notorious for being so nice to their fans. My hope is that I will continue to inspire to be more like them.
SD: You have already starred in “Wicked” and “9 to 5,” are there any other dream roles you want to play onstage?
MH: Someday I would love to play Ms. Lovett from Sweeney Todd, but I have a couple of years for that.
SD: What would you like to get out of performing with the Boston Pops? What do you hope the audience will walk away with?
MH: My hope that is the audience will walk away with some kind of change, whether it is a better mood or even the way they look at the world. Any performer wishes that the show they are performing in will have some kind of impact on the audience for the better.
SD: How much time will you have to spend in Boston? And is there anything you want to do while here?
MH: I will be in Boston for a couple of days. I love Boston! My husband and I just love to wander around the city sightseeing and eating the great food. Of course, I’ll be shopping on Newbury Street.
