This week has nearly as many new and returning shows as last week so I’m going to cover it similarly, though instead of daily posts I’ll be looking at groups of two or three days at a time.
Friday, October 3
Austin City Limits Celebrates 40 Years (9-11 pm, PBS)
The anniversary show includes clips of classic performances from Alabama Shakes, Sheryl Crow, Joe Ely, Foo Fighters, Buddy Guy, Robert Earl Keen, Kris Kristofferson, Lyle Lovett, Bonnie Raitt. Robert Randolph, and more.
Last Man Standing (8-9 pm, ABC)
This throwback sitcom with the put-upon husband and father grumbling about the world has improbably survived on Fridays, and enters its fourth season tonight. (Two-episode season premiere)
Saturday, October 4
Saturday Night Live
Sarah Silverman, who was a cast member for one season in the ‘90s, hosts tonight, with musical guest Maroon 5.
Sunday, October 5
Mulaney (9:30-10 pm, FOX)
John Mulaney is a very funny standup, but his attempt to give new life to the traditional multi-camera sitcom filmed in front of a live studio audience is unfortunately not very funny. Even the presence of performers of the caliber of Martin Short and Elliott Gould doesn’t help.
Bob’s Burgers (7:30-8 pm, FOX)
The Belchers are back for season five of my favorite Sunday animated show.
