BAH HUMBUG ! The NSMT Holiday Tradition continues with “A Christmas Carol.” Theatre actor favorite, David Coffee, returns as Ebenezer Scrooge.
We all know the story. A miserable miser named Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by his dead partner, Marley, who forewarns him that he will receive a visit from the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Marley tells him to pay attention or his eternity will be the same as his.
Coffee’s performance is always masterful and memorable. He is probably the only Scrooge that you enthusiastically loathe and cheer for at the same time.
This year, Russell Garrett (Bob Cratchit) and Lorin Zackular (Mrs. Cratchit) preside over the Cratchit brood. This is Garrett’s fourth time portraying Cratchit and does a wonderful job as the ever-loving family man.
Another fan favorite is Cheryl McMahon as (Mrs. Dilbur / Mrs. Fezziwig). This is her 21st production, and, like fine wine, she certainly gets better with time.
The production moves along at a brisk pace. Although the story is predictable, I love the fact that each year little changes are dispensed throughout the show.
The minimal sets, creative lighting, and sound effects blend effortlessly, making the storytelling come alive on stage.
If you need to get into the holiday spirit, then make your way to NSMT to experience the unforgettable characters and the joy of the holiday season and rediscover “A Christmas Carol.”
This production is a holiday must-see!
