Finding gems in fantasy baseball leagues to put out on the mound can be somewhat difficult. With so many injuries, not to mention to mental aspect of the game, players can flame out at a moment’s notice. However, a few younger guys look promising heading into 2015. Here’s a look at three to target.
Anyone who looks at his 4.48 ERA from a year ago will not be too impressed with what Hutchinson brings to the table. However, at 24 years of age, he still has a chance to step things up a notch. The Toronto Blue Jays are certainly counting on back, and his strikeout rate shows that he could have a few better seasons ahead of him. The statistic that should convince owners that he is going to be good is the fact that he walks less than three batters per nine innings.
It is easy to be skeptical about Carrasco and his finish to the 2014 season. He was able to really pitch well behind Corey Kluber in the rotation for the Cleveland Indians. He has amazing stuff, and he is young enough that he might just be figuring it all out. This is another hard-throwing guy who can rack up strikeouts in bunches for people in fantasy baseball leagues.
How can the reigning National League Rookie of the Year be overlooked? No one really knows for sure, but that is exactly what is going on with so many other young and talented pitchers on the New York Mets for him to compete with. He was one of the only bright spots for the New York Mets last year, and he has a nice repertoire to work with to keep batters off-balance. With a better supporting cast, there is a chance that he avoids the sophomore slump and actually continues to show progress.
